White to address South-East conference on renewable energy
Monday, 08 February 2010
Green Party T.D. for Carlow/Kilkenny, Mary White, is to address an Irish Planning Institute conference in Kilkenny tomorrow on renewable energy, ‘Renewable energy seminar - A Green Wind Blows through the South-East’.
Commenting on tomorrow’s conference, which takes place in the Ormonde Hotel, Kilkenny, from 9.30 - 4.30pm, the Green Party Deputy Leader said:
“Tomorrow morning those interested in the renewable energy sector in the South-East will gather for a series of lectures on the issues facing those involved in renewable energy. Having been one of the Green Party’s three negotiators in the Renewed Programme for Government last year, I will outline for the conference what the Renewed Programme means for the sector.
“Ireland has made progress in increasing its renewable energy component in recent years. By the end of 2008 11.9% of electricity consumption in Ireland was sourced from renewables. Over 15,000 jobs have been created in the green economy since the Greens entered government. There are many significant challenges remaining for the sector. The potential of renewable energy for economic development and environmental protection remains enormous. I look forward to hearing about and discussing these issues, and engaging with people in the constituency and the south-east who have projects and plans in renewable energy generation.”
